I live in a coastal State, called Goa, so our staple food is Fish, Curry and Rice. It is the monsoon now, so the fishermen aren't allowed out to sea since it is rough, and it is reproduction season. :P Anyway, these are snails. They are usually sold as a delicacy over the world. We don't pay a dollar each, though. It is actually quite cheap. These are picked from the fields and act as a substitute for fish. The hard bit that covers the base is a shell that falls off when the snail is boiled, and the body contracts. We then dip them in garlic butter that my mum makes. When my grandmother cooks it, she makes a chilli fry. I love chilli fry.
